Great Tyrant, The: The Trouble With Being Born

I don't recommend listening to this album if you have a headache—your pain will certainly grow worse. For those who are not suffering from pain in this way, you may want to venture into this strange and noisy second release from this experimental rock band. What you'll discover is something that will likely be polarizing. The music here is highly experimental, a term that can either be defined in this case as way out there and unenjoyable or fascinating, interesting, and insightful. As I listened, I wavered a great deal between these options and find myself still wondering whether I even liked this album. The Great Tyrant certainly isn't trying for any commercial attention here. The music wanders through highly experimental territory, drawing on vocals, heavy bass, and synthesizers; the result is often strange, ambient, off-putting, and unusual. I did not enjoy the vocals at all, but found some of the other sounds less irritating.

Even though the music was hard for me to get through, the album may interest fans of the band Pinkish Black because this group features both members of that band. If you already know you want to dive into heavily experimental rock / ambient music, this album may interest you.
