Seer hail from Vancouver, British Columbia, and their full-length debut for Art of Propaganda is a six song feast of sludge & doom titled Vol. 1 & 2. Somewhat of a concept album, Vol. 1 covers the albums first two tracks, "Glimmervoid" and "Hive Mind", with lyrics centered around 'a narrative journey across bleak and barren realms, boundless primordial landscapes, and even further into the celestial beyond', complete with massive, dirge-laden guitar riffs, pounding rhythms, loads of atmosphere, and a mix of clean melodic vocals with roaring bellows & growls. Clocking in around the 13-minute mark, these two tunes are pretty powerful and well done, making for a great opening statement into the album. For Vol. 2, which comprises the next four tracks, the mood takes a quick turn to more somber, acoustic valleys with the haunting "Cosmic Ghosts" and then nightmarish, colossal doom on the bone crunching "Haunter". With 'haunting' clean & rasping vocals, plus some gargantuan riffing, this is a tune not to be missed. "Antibody" reaches noisy, caustic, dirty sludge metal furor, and the more chilling, atmospheric "Aeons" closes out the journey in harrowing fashion.
The cover artwork courtesy of Adam Burke does a great job in depicting the feel of the entire album, which is bleak, haunting, but quite menacing. If you gravitate towards doom & sludge metal, this will be one to seek out. Set to be released in late January 2016.
