Chronos Zero: Hollowlands

Hollowlands is the second album by the Italian metal group of the progressive kind Chronos Zero. Chronos Zero formed in 2011, they have both metal and classical influences including Symphony X, Dream Theater, Meshuggah, Adagio, Pain Of Salvation, Kamelot,, Fryderyk Chopin and Ludwig van Beethoven. The band has two new vocalists since their last album as they have opted to add harsh male and melodic female vocals recruiting Manuel Guerrieri and Margherita Leardini, they join vocalist Gianbattista Jan Manent.

Hollowlands was recorded, mixed and mastered by the much sought after producer and musician Simone Mularoni (DGM), and Simone is also one of the guests on the album. There isn't a shortage of material on Hollowlands and Chronos Zero's like to lay down that powerful progressive metal with a symphonic element. I do like it when Chronos Zero mixes up that heaviness, though easing back on those harsher vocals as at time would benefit their songs. The main problem I have with Hollowlands is that it really isn't that memorable and with so many tracks it's not the sort of problem that you want to experience. Chronos Zero are talented musicians who aren't short of inspiration that's more than evident on Hollowlands though maybe too much is being incorporated at times which ultimately doesn't have such a positive outcome.
