No, The Last Vegas aren't from the city of sin Las Vegas, instead this six piece band hail from the gritty, historic town of Chicago, home of the Cubs, Bears, and the classic Italian beef sandwich. Hardly a place you'd expect a '70s glam rock band to emerge from, but that's exactly the case here with The Last Vegas and their brand new album for AFM Records, Eat Me. Obviously well schooled on the classic sounds of Alice Cooper, MC5, T-Rex, David Bowie, Cheap Trick, KISS, and The Stooges, The Last Vegas have delivered here on this 11 song set a wealth of glossy, upbeat rockers, filled with raunchy riffs, sleazy vocals, a never ending supply of infectious grooves and a retro attitude to boot.
Tunes like "Hot Fudge", "Bloodthirsty", and "Along for the Ride" are fun, trashy, upbeat rockers, the latter a strange mix of Cinderella & Cher (you'll have to hear it!), and "Voodoo Woman" chugs along with some ferocious riffs and plenty of swagger. If you love '80s styled glam-metal styled ballads, there are a few of those here, such as "Love's Got Nothing on Me", "Hard to Get Over You", and "Universe You" , while the early punk influence of The Stooges and MC5 comes across on "To Be Treated", mixed with a little Alice Cooper on the upbeat closer "From Hell".
The band quotes their music as "pop trash", and that's probably pretty accurate. There's a lot going on here, bits of rock, glam, metal, funk, punk, and more, so for some listeners Eat Me is going to be a bit all over the place, but for the most part it's still a fun album to listen to, and it's obvious that the band had an equally fun time putting it together. It won't be for everyone, but it's easy to recommend.
