Puff Purple: In Rock
First releasing this album in 2013, which is now given a new lease of life by SG Records, Puff Purple are an Italian outfit taking cartoon themes from their own country's TV schedules and introducing a level of rock and metal into them. In truth it's hard to know whether this is meant to be funny (it isn't), or straight up entertainment (nope, it isn't that either), and why a record label with a decent pedigree are wasting their time with this, it's hard to know.
From the nine songs presented, only "La Fabbrica De Mostri" possesses any interest, a gnawing riff making you wake from the slumbers the rest of this album sends you to. The other eight tracks are sub Eurovision nonsense where annoying vocals vie with twee melodies to see which can bore you first. In the end it's a tie with no winners. Add in some silly costumes and Puff Purple and their album with an undeserved nod to the band with a more 'deep' interest in the colour purple, In Rock, ticks each and every box marked 'avoid'.
