Nadja: Sv

Here we have the latest from the Canadian duo known as Nadja, titled Sv and comprised of one 41 minute long track of their usual droning ambient doom/showgaze. Comprised of Aidan Baker (guitars, woodwinds, keyboards, drum programming, vocals) and Leah Buckareff (bass, vocals, violin), Nadja create experimental noise that slowly sputters, drifts, and meanders, occasional bouts of electrified frenzy bursting through a haze of static and clanky percussion. At about the 18-minute mark you do get some thunderous riffing slicing through the murky clouds and noisy percussion, which last till about three quarters of the way through this piece before creepy keyboards take things out to more sedate finale.

As with much of the Nadja material I've heard in the past, there's just not a lot of substance here, and I'm sure for most folks, you are going to either love this sort of thing or completely hate it. Sure, it's hypnotic in spots, harsh in others, but mostly the sounds here just drift along, not really making much of an impact or offering anything truly memorable.
