Ensiferum: Two Decades of Greatest Sword Hits
Two Decades of Greatest Sword Hits is a compilation of Ensiferum's decade and a half on Spinefarm Records although it includes the sparky, not-entirely-unlike-a-disco-Korpiklaani "Two of Spades" from the band's first Metal Blade album One Man Army. It's pretty comprehensive although long term fans could quibble about the odd omission. I stand by my assertion that 2012's Unsung Heroes is their masterpiece and should be the first port of call for anyone wanting to get into some epic folk metal. That said, this is a very solid compilation full of quality songs such as the lead track from the aforementioned Unsung Heroes "In My Sword I Trust" which remains for me, the band's high point given the infectious grandeur of the song.
The only problem with this album is that such a strong back catalogue deserves a double album with some special extras thrown in as an incentive for those who hopped on the train at the start of the journey. 4 stars for the music but the overall package could have been improved.
