Izegrim: The Ferryman's End

First things first, how about that cover art from Eliran Kantor? The artist has previously created works for Testament, Soulfly, Satan, and Hatebreed, and the cover for the latest release from Dutch act Izegrim, titled The Ferryman's End is another winner. What about the music you ask? Well, the bands furious death/thrash assault is on full display throughout The Ferryman's End, led by the snarling growls of bassist Marloes and also featuring some nasty riffing from guitarists Jeroen & Bart, as well as the acrobatic drum work of Ivo. Think Arch Enemy, Carcass, and Kreator, and you have a good idea of the raging sound that these guys (and gal) produce. Marloes delivers plenty of venomous vocals throughout, her raspy screams permeating "Endless Desire", "Time to Run", and "Absolute Necessity" amid a swirling maelstrom of trashy riffs and jackhammer drumming. "Reclaim My Identity" just pummels from start to finish, easily one of the most powerful tracks here, and for those who love relentless speed burners, check out the rampaging "Reflections of Redemption" for pure thrashy goodness.

If there's anything to quibble about here on The Ferryman's End, there's probably a few tracks too many, as as couple of the songs tend to sound too similar to each other, but otherwise, if you dig modern death metal mixed with vintage styled thrash and fronted by a kick ass female growler, this latest from Izegrim will be right up your alley.
