Iron Savior: Titancraft

There are a few bands whose output I have always been able to rely upon without fail. These include Pagan's Mind, Tedeschi Trucks Band, and Romeo's Daughter amongst SoT approved bands. Another band which can be added to the list is Germany's Iron Savior who have been delivering manly, unreconstructed metal since 1997. Titancraft doesn't see Piet Sielck and his bandmates suddenly move into pastures new – and why should it when they do what they do so well?

Singalong (actually shoutalong) choruses remain very much in vogue with the Savior – simple but effective stuff, witness "Gunsmoke" as an example which invokes western (cowboy) imagery in a memorable melody allied to crunching vocals and guitars. Classic Iron Savior just like the rest of the album. The middle of Titancraft is particularly strong with "Beyond the Horizon" managing to make a singalong song out of a track which also discusses traveling through the killing fields. "The Sun Won't Rise In Hell" features some particularly excellent twin guitar work whilst "I Surrender" is not a Rainbow cover but a surprisingly effective ballad.

In many ways Iron Savior are difficult to review as they plough their furrow, plough it excellently and whilst it can be argued that they essentially make the same record over and over again they do it very well indeed.

Iron Savior: Titancraft

My Score:

If there's one thing you can always count on, it's a new Iron Savior release sounding like, well, a typical Iron Savior release. That's not necessarily a bad thing, as any longtime fan will attest to, especially when the band deliver all the goods that so many love about their music. This is fist pumping, sweeping power metal, long on anthemic choruses, galloping rhythms, and twin guitar mastery. If it sounds like a formula well travelled by acts like Helloween, Gamma Ray, Primal Fear, and countless others, it certainly is, but Iron Savior are easily among the best, and the tunes on their latest Titancraft are damn infectious right from the get go. Try and resist such catchy terrors as "Way of the Blade", "Seize the Day", "Beyond the Horizons", and the raging title track, just a few highlights on an album filled with strong, memorable material. The guitars of Piet Sielk and Joachim 'Piesel' Kustner are powerful throughout, the duo riffing like mad and injecting plenty of scorching leads which are sure to please any metalhead. Sielk as always handles the lead vocals, but the entire band also contribute backing vocals, which gives the album a full, rich sound, In the end, if you crave no frills, catchy power metal, there's no better band to turn to than Iron Savior, and Titancraft is another winner from this veteran band.
