Nuclear: Formula For Anarchy

Now well into their second decade Chilean metaleers Nuclear deliver their fourth full length album, Formula For Anarchy. Thrash is the name of this band's game and the only game in town is thrash in the vein of Slayer's blood spattered likeness. Add in occasional power surge of Exodus, early Sepultura or Kreator and in an aggressive, uncompromising nutshell, you've gone Nuclear. Originality doesn't come into this equation and if that's an issue, then Formula For Anarchy will quickly become your formula for boredom.

Opinions on Nuclear appear hugely split, some decrying their 'I like that band's music, so let's sound like them' ethos, others happy to accept a good thrash band playing nothing but thrash, a handful even hailing them as heroes in a genre lacking much in the way of new exciting blood for quite some time. If you're one of those willing, or indeed delighted, to be able to put the very obvious hero worship aside and simply wallow in the pools of hatred and drink in the angry assault of guitars, then you'll get a hell of a lot back from this album. Everything runs at full velocity, drums blazing, guitars a frenzy, vocals spat and barked with violent intent, and whether through the percussive fury of "Waging War" (slightly) more considered and melodic "Killing Spree" or no compromise "Scam38" it's all done remarkably well.

Really, there's not much more to say. Formula For Anarchy wants to and does sound like Slayer. It also does so in hugely convincing fashion. If you're looking for well executed thrash, you'll find it, but not much else, right here.
