Blindstone: Greetings From The Karma Factory

You just have to hear an album proud enough to boast the name, Greetings From The Karma Factory, don't you? Denmark's finest, Blindstone, welcoming us into this top secret location way back in 2012. So why the review now? Well because it's a stonkingly awesome illustration that what you need to live life with a manic grin on your face is riffs the size of mainland Europe and grooves so deep, if you were to fall into one, you'd be lost for all eternity.

Led by the mighty master of riffage, Martin J Andersen, Blindstone are a power trio to end power trios, bassist Jesper Bunk only hammering out the thickest, fullest, richest of hip gyrating insemination, while drummer Anders Hvidtfeldt nails everything so firmly to the floor, the only way to move them would be to demolish the whole damn building – and even then, they'd probably survive the blast. Looking for a rich, staccato guitar cavalcade? Then feel "Free" my friend, as Andersen rips out one of many captivating, reality altering solos. Do you deserve good times to come rolling in on an authentic gallop of guitar goodness? Well, that is "Karma", a Hendrix vibe made to feel thoroughly modern, just not in a way that betrays the love for the music Blindstone so obviously have. "What Lovin' Can Do" slows the whole shebang down, emotion running freely from the frets of Andersen and Bunk, the touch and tone of the pair a thing to behold. While "In The Groove Of Things" couldn't be better named if its life depended on it, although the heavy undertones of the singing resonant guitar offers a clever counterpoint; illustrating the love and care that's gone into each and every note on this album perfectly. The same can be said for the vocals, Andersen excelling in that department too, his impassioned but never OTT approach the hand in glove fit for music that often likes to do the talking, but knows when to leave the space for another aspect to come in and up the ante even further.

My only regret regarding Greetings From The Karma Factory is that I didn't pick up it on some four years ago when it was first released. I mean how have I existed without the easy power of "Once More", southern tinged "Trying", or utterly indispensable "Struck Down By The Blues" and "Rock Your Mojo"? I can only urge you to get over to Grooveyard Records and sample for yourself, you'll soon be asking the very same question!
