Ford, Lita: Time Capsule

I have a tendency to listen to stuff I am reviewing without really paying too much attention to the accompanying material which comes with it. The first thing I noticed about Time Capsule was that the tags on the download were in German and were, I assume, just whatever the German is for each song title. They also became alphabetized on my mp3 playing device so my first experience of the album was Titelnummer 10 which turns out to be "Mr. Corruption" – a fairly generic, not very inspiring squealy-guitared '80s inflected song which might have made a B-side back in the day. Titelnummer 11 which turned up next is "Anything For The Thrill" which appears to reference "Mama's Little Girl and the Cocaine Queen" in the opening line and is another less than stellar rocker which may be the story of the album.

When I finally got around to reading about the album, it turns out this is a raiding the vaults exercise hence the following; "The album is a time capsule of the fertile and whisky-soaked pre-grunge period that so many rock fans have continued affection for. Time Capsule is Ford's gift to fans who love the '80s, when thrilling vocal performances, raunchy riffs, and loud, growling guitars were as essential as oxygen." I'm not saying that all the tracks should have remained hidden from view but there's a reason why they weren't released back in the day. Some of the background information is marginally more interesting than the songs, as an example, about "Killing Kind" Ford says "Dave Navarro walks by. We grab him and tell him, 'Play something on this song. Here, play this mandolin!' And boom! He does it." If you dug Lita Ford in the 1980s (and many people, including me were) there is sufficient music here to be of interest but not necessarily enough quality to create excitement.
