Crimson Fire: Fireborn

Greek metal group Crimson Fire have plenty on offer for the traditional metal fans on their new album Fireborn. Fireborn is their second full length album, their debut Metal Is Black actually came out in 2010. With twelve tracks clocking in at forty two minutes the band have laid down a powerful performance with that classic 80's styled heavy melodic metal. Crimson Fire are more focused on that pumping kind of metal which is catchy than complex material so they sink their hooks in fast, and if you like groups such as Hammerfall, Dream Evil and Stormwarrior then this band is also worth checking out. Crimson Fire put the pedal to the floor on Fireborn, that is after the brief instrumental "Awakening" as they "Take To The Skies" with much enthusiasm. From there on the band powers on with a mixture of tempos, the vocals are soaring and the guitars are leading the charge and the extra touches like those keyboards on "Master Your Density" certainly add to that 80's feel. Just like the band's performances overall Fireborn is rock solid, there's no real surprises in store here Crimson Fire obviously like their old school metal and that's what they deliver.

Crimson Fire: Fireborn

My Score:

Here's a pretty satisfying platter of classic '80s styled metal from the band known as Crimson Fire, the album titled Fireborn for Pitch Black Records. Harkening back to the days when Crimson Glory, Warlock, Leige Lord, Fates Warning, and Sanctuary were just starting to emerge from the metal underground, Crimson Fire have put together a solid collection of songs that push all the right metallic buttons. "Right Off the Bat" is an instant anthem, with a great chorus and lots of crunchy guitar riffs, and the same can be said for "Young, Free, Lust", with lead vocalist John Britsas soaring to the heavens amid some seriously tasty guitar work. Other highlights include the heavy "Hunter", the slightly proggy "Master Your Destiny", and the raging speed metal barnburner "Knightrider". The band even dip into some cool Iron Maiden/Satan inspired NWOBHM majesty on the energetic "Vengeful Spirit".

Firstborn is ultimately another in a long line of strong releases from the Pitch Black roster, and Crimson Fire are definitely a band to put on your radar if you gravitate towards classic early '80s styled heavy metal.
