Suns of Thyme: Cascades
Tammo Dehn - synths, percussions, sampler, Tobias Feltes - vocals, guitars, sitar, Tim Hoppe / guitars, Jascha Kreft - drums, vocals and bassist Jens Rosenkranz are Suns of Thyme and are signed to Napalm Records' ever expanding roster. Suns of Thyme couldn't be much further away from the label's early power metal base playing a fairly mainstream (see "Deep Purple Rain") on the edge of indie style which to be honest left me pretty cold. There's a pervading sense of melancholy throughout proceedings as evidenced in a sample of the lyric from "Do or Die":
"Repetition endlessly
Every option holds a key
It all comes falling down on me
This is a matter of do or die
Hours turn to grey I still
Dig up some new holes I won't fill
I stumble round my little hill
This is a matter of do or die"
Maybe it's because I generally seek out upbeat, life-affirming music but I really can't get into this shoegazing style album as it reminds me of the barren wastelands that were the 1990s with its clipped guitars and meandering, languid tone. No thanks.
