For the most part I have found the Finnish vocalist Tarja Turunen's solo releases My Winter Storm, What Lies Beneath and Colours In The Dark to be very enjoyable. The Brightest Void is like an extra album with nine tracks that Tarja has released in the lead up to her new studio recording. That album The Shadow Self is just around the corner as it will be released in August of this year. Besides the original songs some with guest spots which are by vocalist Michael Moore(Hanoi Rocks) on "Your Heaven And Your Hell" and drummer Chad Smith (Red Hot Chilli Peppers) "Eagle Eye" there's also cover tracks on The Brightest Void. Including that of Paul McCartney's "House Of Wax", James Bond's Goldfinger theme song which is quite well done with that James Bond meets metal sound, and a new mix of Within Temptation's "Paradise –(What About Us)" taken from their album Hydra as Tarja appeared on the original. Standouts songs on The Brightest Void would have to be "Eagle Eye", "Witch Hunt" and the catchy "No Bitter End", "Your Heaven And Your Hell" also has a lot going for it but I'm not really a fan of Michael Moore's vocals.
Much like her former bands last album I can't say that I'm taken in by all the tracks on The Brightest Void, but then again I do suspect that The Shadow Self will be a more enticing Tarja album overall.
