Daniel Crommie is no stranger to these pages. The American multi-instrumentalist has released around twenty-four solo albums and is also involved in many projects like Group Du Jour, Saturnalia Trio, DC Sound Collective and Echo System.
Much like his previous solo efforts Earthbound Facing Skyward continues his experimental ambient soundscapes. Washes of synthesizers often form a calming blanket of sound amidst voice samples which are used quite extensively. The calming flute and electronic percussion in "The Jay Walk", the pastoral elegance of "Kabocha" and the experimental electronics in "Deimos v Phobos" are pleasant enough listens if not earth shattering. The pure synth soundscape of "Dodecahedron" is another slice of pastoral ambience.
If you are not already a fan of Crommie this piece will likely not convert you but if you appreciate calming ambient soundscapes and like a heavy dose of experimentalism Earthbound Facing Skyward might be able to reel you in.
