Although the husband-and-wife team of Bo and Paul Parker have been making music together for more than three decades as founding members of the eclectic folk-rock outfit Group du Jour, Cheshire Moon marks the first time they have collaborated as a duo. This disc, an acoustic blend of jazz, blues, folk, rock and pop, starts out promisingly with the melodic and laid-back "Ghost of a Previous Love." But then the earthy Cheshire Moon gets a little too laid back, lulling listeners with its soft songs and pastoral cover. Granted, Bo's fluid and sometimes haunting voice blends well with her dreamy guitars and keyboards, while Paul's signature guitar and bass playing define Cheshire Moon's peaceful sound, and his lyrics read like poetry. A handful of other musicians also contribute to this disc, but it is the Parkers who deserve credit for making Cheshire Moon a fanciful (if uneventful and risk-free) listening experience.
