Here we have the self-titled debut from Arizona's Fuzz Evil, a pretty cool band name and an equally cool album. This trio, comprised of Wayne Rudell (Vocals/Guitar), Joseph Rudell (Bass), and Daniel Graves (Drums), are all about upbeat stoner metal, with the influences of Black Sabbath, MC5, Clutch, Monster Magnet, and The Stooges seeping through these six hard hitting tracks. Wayne is certainly a competent riffmaster, unleashing plenty of fuzz laden guitar dirges and wah-wah solos on heavy yet groovy tunes like "Good Medicine", "Killing the Sun", "My Fuzz", and the monstrous "Odin Has Fallen". The final track, "Black Dread", is perhaps the most adventurous here, as the band dive into deep psychedelia as well as some vintage sounding space rock. It's a cool departure from the mostly rhythmic stoner material that precedes it, and it will be interesting to see if the band veer off into similar territory on future releases
Fuzz Evil have but together a fun album here for their debut, and based on this the band will certainly be one to keep your eyes on. I'd love to see them continue down the path set on the last two tracks here into more psychedelic and doomy material, but we'll see what happens. Good stuff!
