Initiated is a Finnish band with one purpose: to play heavy rock. Although this is not necessarily a surprising ambition, the point is to spread this sound and style around Finland in ways that will set the music scene on fire. The band's overall sound is solid; the music is heavy, playful, and raw and never shies away from weaving plenty of punk rock into the overall sound. I was most impressed with "Celebrate the Dead," the album's opening track. When I heard that track the first time, I could only think that early punk rock was alive and well in 2016. Not every track has that same level of punk energy but every song has strong riffs and a big, beefy, sound. Listeners will likely hear the influence of bands like Samhain and Dictators, both in the sound of the music and in the style of the vocals.
