Sometimes, you just need good, old fashioned death metal...and that's exactly what you get here on Incoming Death, the latest release from the reliable Dutch veterans Asphyx. You don't have a near 30 year career in metal and not know what the hell you are doing, and these guys certainly can attest to kicking ass for decades, thrilling fans and influencing up and coming groups along the way. If you liked their most recent album Deathhammer, then the vintage death metal-meets-doom attack of Incoming Death will more than satisfy your thirst for all thing extreme. The production is quite massive, tunes like "Wardroid" and "Division Brandenburg" just bursting with ferocious riffing, pounding drums, and tortured vocals, while the more traditional death meal gallop comes out in the form of "Candiru", "The Feeder", "It Came From the Skies", and the blistering title track, as frantic, savage riffing takes center stage alongside the gravelly vocal attack. Of course, what this band does so well is combine both worlds, as they do so deliciously on the crushing "Forerunners Of The Apocalypse", a doom laden apocalypse of monstrous death metal, the riffs absolutely huge and the drums deafening. There's even the epic "Death: The Only Immortal", another massive, haunting dive into atmospheric, doomy death metal that contains an overwhelming amount of power.
With nine albums to their credit, Asphyx have built an important career in the world of extreme metal and they show no signs of slowing down here on Incoming Death. Highly recommended.
