It's kind of easy to dismiss this outfit on first listen. By today's standards the production's not very good, the singing and playing are primitive and brutal and the retro thrash thing seems a little bizarre at first, Tearabyte sounding at times not unlike one of those acts on New Renaissance Records during the first wave of thrash. (Anvil Bitch springs to mind but there were others.) But after a while there's a charm to this release, an early Priest-cum-Slayer-cum-Testament thing that overwhelms you by the second track and sustains you for the rest of the album, even through the breakneck cover of "Comfortably Numb." (Why the hell don't more bands take risks like this? This works so freakin' well, you won't believe it. And how come nobody writes offensive bonus tracks like the one that heads up the 31-minute bonanza that closes out Gloom Factor?) Good.
