Album after album the Spanish symphonic metal group Diabulus In Musica continue to impress big time, and that trend continued with the release of Argia in 2014. With this in mind I sure had high hopes for this their latest and fourth studio release Dirge For The Archons, and while I'm not going claim that Dirge For The Archons tops the excellent Argia once again this band has me captivated. Vocally Zuberoa Aznarez's charming style leads the charge, with both male dark and clean adding to the mix of choirs and that powerful orchestral/metal music.
An orchestral track "Battle of of Atlantis" leads to the smoking metal of "Earthly Illusions" an action packed number with Diabulus In Musica's dynamic musicianship on show. Those hefty riffs of "Marble Embrace" are very cool and coupled with the vocals this is one of Dirge For The Archons most memorable tracks. The band really got the balance right with surprising tracks like the theatrical "Ring Around Dark Fairies' Carousel". There's vibrant rockers such as "The Voice Of Your Dreams", tranquil inclusions as we find with "Bane" and "Zauria" which is sung in Spanish or those sweeping symphonic metal wonders like "The River Of Loss", there are no filler tracks to speak on Dirge For The Archons. This is yet another excellent recording by Diabulus In Musica, and so I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending Dirge For The Archons to fans of quality symphonic metal.
