To celebrate 20 years together as a band, Germany's thrash metal veterans Perzonal War and their label Metalville Records have put together Inside The New Time Chaoz, an 11 track compilation of tracks from their 1998 album The Inside as well as their New Time Chaos album from 2000, both long out of print but more importantly never sold outside of Germany. These noteworthy tracks from those two albums have been re-recorded by the current line-up of the band, along with help from former members Frank Buchwalter (bass), Sascha Kerschgens (guitar), and Sven Krautkrämer (bass).
If you've never experienced Perzonal War before, this will serve as a good intruduction. Instead of following the normal German thrash formula of say Destruction, Kreator, or Sodom, Perzonal War have always been heavily influenced by the titans of the Bay Area, namely early Metallica, Exodus, Megadeth, and Testament, and there are a host of tunes here that will please any fan of those classic thrash acts. Neck snappers like "The Inside", "D.O.P.", "Good & Evil", "Putrefaction Of Mind", "New Time Bitch", and "Area Black" contain a wealth of inventive, crunchy riffing and acrobatic rhythms, while the more plodding "Hornet" and the progressive "Nothing Remains at All" bring to mind ...And Justice For All era Metallica. Lead vocals from Matthias Zimmer are very good, reminding at times of a cross between James Hetfield and Chuck Billy, especially on the twisting "Mother Darkness" and the menacing yet melodic closer "Dying Times", the latter also containing some excellent lead guitar work.
Solid thrash all around here on Inside The New Time Chaoz. Congratulations on 20 years guys, and here's to many more!
