Christian melodic progressive metal group S91 have a new album titled Behold The Mankind. S91 are another group proving that despite the vast number of leading male groups female fronted progressive metal bands also have plenty to offer. As I mentioned S91 are a Christian band and Behold the mankind is in fact an eight track concept album "about the history of mankind based on Christian theology." Behold the mankind is impressive sound wise and was produced by Cristiano Bertocchi (Vision Divine, Labyrinth, Wind Rose) and Christian Liljegren (Narnia, Golden Resurrection, Divinefire). Opener "The Cry Of Life" has an almost Dream Theater like introduction that sets it up strongly, I also like the use of both female and those male vocals on this one, and there are many other cool touches throughout this album like the ethnic influences on "Slaves And Kings", and the keyboards on "The Calling". "Blind Revolutions" has one of the most memorable choruses and a cracking solo section and this album sure isn't short on those. "Sacrificed" builds into quite a heavy track and the way the kick drums duplicate the other instruments sounds very effective on this track, and they saved the longest for last with "The Bloody Revelation" where the guitars and keyboards have plenty of space to display their prowess. The Italian groups second album is sure to impress many as S91 knows how to write songs that are so very engaging.
