Tacere is a melodic metal band from Finland. They have several earlier CDs out that sound interesting, but Emocion Muerte is a mini-CD that contains 4 songs totaling 27 minutes.
The song writing is good. The songs flow and move through faster and slower parts with ease and the 4 songs have a similar without repetitive feel. But two major flaws keep this mini-CD from making me long to buy the longer version when it comes out.
The first problem is the singing of main songwriter Karri de Monet. It is so theatrical and over dramatic that it completely distracts from the musicians. It must be difficult for the singer/songwriter to know when he is over-featuring an instrument (in this case his voice) but that is what producers are for. Unfortunately this was produced by de Monet as well.
The second problem is the redundant drumming of Jarno Vanhanen. He either bangs at a straight metal pace or completely disappears. There is no variation or rhythmic variance. The bass playing is more than adequate but with the drumming being sub par there is nowhere for him to go.
The positives of this CD lie with the keyboard and guitar interaction of de Monet and Jamne Salminen. When there are no vocals (because everything goes immediately in the background when the vocals occur) the music is quite pleasant.
Emocion Muerte has appeal though, especially for Metal fans that don't mind some guttural in their vocals. The songwriting shows promise. Here is hoping that they can find a producer that can give these songs the mix and recommendations to bring them to the next level.
