From Queens, New York comes deathcore act Footage of a Yeti and their latest full-length release Purging the Human Condition, a seven song affair of crushing brutality that attempts to bridge the gap between monstrous death metal, hardcore, and djent. If you like a healthy amount of groove, massive breakdowns, the occasional technical passage, and plenty of screaming, bellowing, and growling vocals, then you've come to the right place. Nothing you are going to hear on Purging the Human Condition is going to break any records for originality, but what these guys do they do well, the two part title track containing a bit of atmosphere to go along with some brutal breakdowns that are as heavy as hell with varying vocal venom being spewed all over creation. "Wretched World" shows they have a little progressive nature in them, which you can also hear on the instrumental "Hell Gate", as the band clearly has listened to a lot of Meshuggah in their spare time. A few of the tunes though have a real generic nature to them, which seems to be a problem with a lot of deathcore acts out there, as it's really been years since any band of this ilk has given us anything that really rises to the top of the heap. Overall though, some decent material here that shows a band with talent, and there's no denying that this is one heavy & brutal record, so points for that are well deserved.
