Borealis: World Of Silence MMXVII

Canadian power/prog metal act Borealis first burst on the scene back in 2008 with their self-released album World of Silence, a very solid debut that never got the recognition it deserved, so the band recently went back into the studio, re-recorded and remixed the album for its first ever official release on AFM Records. These ten songs now can be fully enjoyed and appreciated by metal fans worldwide as if this were a brand new Borealis album of all new original material.

Lead singer/guitarist Matt Marinelli has a voice that is like a cross between Savatage/Circle II Circle's Zak Stevens and Andy B. Franck from Brainstorm, providing the perfect fit for the bands muscular yet melodic heavy metal. Tunes such as "Lost Voices", "Midnight City", and "Forget the Past" contain a wealth of crunchy riffs and a smattering of keyboards, the melodies catchy and the grooves thunderous. The chugging "Eyes of a Dream" has some wonderful keyboard orchestrations to go along with powerful progressive metal arrangements, while blistering lead guitar & acrobatic drumming drives the energetic yet highly memorable title track. Other highlights include the haunting, Evergrey influenced "The Afterlife", the soaring symphonic prog of "Divine Answer", and the twisting arrangements of "Black Rose".

Borealis have done an excellent job of bringing these great songs into 2017, so if you missed out on this album back in 2008, now's the time to experience it for the first time. Word is the band are also planning on releasing an album of all new material later this year, so it could very well be a banner year for Borealis here in 2017.
