As further proof that there is something significantly superior going on over in Sweden, we have here the debut demo recording from Candle, a fearsome five piece band who have a serious love for all things vintage heavy metal. With just four tracks, Demo 2016 doesn't waste any time letting you know what Candle are all about, the dark furious riffing of "Betrayal" hitting hard, guitarists Christian Kanto & Markus Janis laying down an assortment of powerful guitar thunder over which vocalist Erik Nordkvist soars to the heavens. Brothers Jorma & Juhani Pihlajainen pound out some relentless rhythms on the crushing "Dancing Lights", while "Frozen With Fear" is like a cross between early Fates Warning, Candlemass, and Cirith Ungol, as dark riffs, twin guitar harmonies, and high pitched vocals will bring you right back to 1983 all over again. Closer "No Peace For My Soul" is more of a mid paced doom thumper, and might be the weakest track here, but it's still a good song with some tasty riffage.
Based on what's on display here on Demo 2016, Candle has a very bright future ahead of themselves, and anyone who craves early '80s styled classic metal will find lots to enjoy with this little release.
