Summer Breeze Project (SBP): Contact Part Two

First off my apologies to the band for taking so long for this review to see the light of day. The band Summer Breeze Project (SBP) hail from the Netherlands and consist of Gert Bruins (lead vocals, guitars), Gordon van Pelt (guitars, theremin), Rene Troostheiden (drums, drum programming, percussion), Fons Panneman (keyboards, piano, Hammond, synths, soundscapes, backing vocals) and Jørgen de Jonge (bass, backing vocals).

Contact Part Two is the second of a three part trilogy. I first became aware of the band in 2014 and subsequently reviewed Contact Part One and gave it a very favourable four stars.

The disc begins with "Old" and its heavier guitar riffs and moody organ layers. This is heavier proggish hard rock with an overall melancholy sound. The vocals are definitely accented and while they didn't blow me away they serve the tune well as Bruins has a pleasant enough voice. The music traverses heavy to softer territories before ending with a plaintive vocal and keyboard melody. The mostly mellow "Grey" has a moody Pink Floyd sound at times, very dark and brooding with Bruins' pleading lead vocals. Half way through the guitar riffs become heavier leading to an interesting instrumental break. "Metropolis" continues the dark mood both musically and lyrically.

Contact Part Two is a solid progressive rock album and certainly has me looking forward to Part Three.
