After many years and albums with a male lead vocalist Burning Point the melodic metal group from Finland made the switch to a female vocalist in 2014, and then released the album Burning Point in 2015 which featured both re-recorded and new tracks. My Burning Point experience is limited to just the one album Empyre which wasn't a bad release at all, but not one that I went back to regularly nor did it motivate me to check out their other albums. I did however revisit that same album to compare the two vocalists and whilst I probably do have a preference for those male vocals this change up front doesn't seem out of place.
Burning Point released their first album Salvation By Fire in 2001 and their latest is The Blaze. Starting with "Master Them All" Burning Point play it safe with this catchy upbeat melodic power metal track, "Chaos Rising" is another impressive trail blazer with one of the best vocal performances on The Blaze, and yes there is more to this album than rapid speedsters. The guitar work on the album is the main highlight and with plenty of scintillating solos Burning Point have it covered. Much like the latest Firewind album unless you are looking for an album that deviates greatly from the past and in the case of Burning Point don't mind the vocal change then The Blaze is ready and waiting.
