One need only glance at the glorious cover art here to know that this self-titled release from Ymir's Blood is indeed going to be dripping with vintage metal sounds. That's right folks, the Finnish trio comprised of Konsta (guitar & vocals), Teppo (bass), and Jesse (drums) pray at the altar of Candlemass, Bathory, Celtic Frost, Reverend Bizarre, and perhaps a bit of Cirith Ungol on this 5-track descent in classic doom. Opening cut "Unleasher - Beerbarian" is 9+ minutes of epic styled doom, the riffs humongous and the arrangements will sweep you away in majestic metal fashion. The band toss in some black metal elements on the Viking inspired "1589", and while Konsta might not be the greatest vocalist you've ever heard, his straining delivery doesn't attempt to overtake the crushing guitar riffs which carry these songs into the stratosphere. Henu from Gorephilia guests on growling vocals on the menacing "Origin of Doom", and the band gives a cool Viking doom spin to the Led Zeppelin classic "Immigrant Song".
This one's a lot of fun folks, Ymir's Blood offering up a unique take on doom metal that deserves your attention. Check it out.
