Grand Massive: III

Grand Massive first came into being in 2008 in Germany by Jochen Boellath (owner of Daredevil Records, ex-Duster69) with his long-time friend Juergen Lobinger (ex-Cursed.)The band was completed by long-time Duster 69 friend Toby Brandl (ex-Commander) and Holger Stich (ex-Red Tape Parade). Big do's and little do's seem to have left us with Alex Andronikoson on vocals alongside Toby Brandl (ex-Commander) on bass, Minke Malte – drums with guitarists Peter Wiesenbacher - and Jochen Boellath.

III was recorded at Wellenklang und Weltraum Studio, Munich, was mixed in Sweden by John Hermansen (Mother Misery, Stonewall Noise Orchestra, Awesome Machine) and mastered by Andy Classen (Tankard, Legion Of The Damned, Destruction.) It is available on Metalville Records. I have to say upfront that Grand Massive's style isn't one that I would normally gravitate towards. It's touching upon stoner rock which is a genre that only rarely does it for me, however, the sound is brash, loud and at times grungily distorted and some of the songs, especially the opening barrage of "Deliver Me" and "Power of Gods" are not bereft of melody. Another thing that is definitely not absent would be riffs, lots of them but sadly at times it seems that the riffs are important than the rest of the song so ultimately this is a minor disappointment.
