Watchers, The: Sabbath Highway

The Watchers is a recently formed American band that play rock and roll fast and heavy. In the band are vocalist Tim Narducci (Systematic, Scorcht Earth, SpiralArms, White Witch Canyon), guitarist Jeremy Von Epp (Black Gates, The Venting Machine), bassist Chris 'Cornbread' Lombardo (SpiralArms, White Witch Canyon) and drummer Carter Kennedy (Orchid).

After the demise of White Witch Canyon Lombardo and Narducci formed The Watchers. Upon looking at the album cover and title Sabbath Highway as well as the band members previous bands it should come as no surprise this is heavy stuff. Heavy guitar riffs loaded with plenty of fuzz, pummeling drum beats and Narducci's full bodied lead vocals is what you will get. This music might just knock you on your ass if you let it.

The five song EP kicks off with the title track. The riffs are fast and heavy yet still catchy and the lead vocals mesh well with the music. The drums get fairly complex and the fretwork is excellent throughout. "Requiem" is an intro piece with lush orchestrations, mostly organ and leads directly into "Call The Priest" with its razor edged fuzz filled riffage. Narducci gives a dynamic vocal performance on this one. The pace is a little slower but still heavy as the guitar squelches and blazes with reckless abandon. More fiery guitar is featured on the equally heavy "Today" while the last track "Just A Needle" has a dirtier edge to its heavy rock.

Sabbath Highway is an excellent platter of heavy rock brimming with energy and solid performances all around. Hopefully their next disc will be a full length so we can really get a taste of what this band has to offer.
