Danko Jones: Wild Cat
I once caught about ten minutes of Danko Jones in support act mode and have based a near two decade ambivalence on said ten minutes. Is Wild Cat the album to make me change my mind? Yes and no to be honest – there's plenty of honest rock'n'roll on Wild Cat with the excellent "You Are My Woman" being a highlight. There's very little here that comes remotely close to shoving the amphibious craft out but equally there's nothing offensively awful. It's very much a case of more of the same. If you already like these veteran Canucks chances are you'll dig this, if you don't they definitely haven't suddenly turned into Tangerine Dream or anything like that and you may wish to swerve this typical Danko Jones album.

Danko Jones: Wild Cat Posted by Pete Pardo, SoT Staff Writer on 2017-04-06 06:54:23 My Score:
Wild Cat is actually my first full exposure to Canadian act Danko Jones, despite hearing a song here and there over the last few years this band just hasn't crossed my radar much till now with their latest AFM release. Honestly, though this isn't necessarily my cup of tea, the appeal of this band is immediately apparent. Blending classic rock, metal, and punk, Jones and cohorts have crafted a catchy, upbeat and hard rocking album here that should appeal to the masses. With vocals that are a cross between James Hetfield and Phil Lynott, Jones' snarl slots in alongside raging garage riffs and plenty of groove on tunes such as "Let's Start Dancing", "My Little RNR", and the raucous "I Gott Rock". You get a healthy Thin Lizzy feel on "Do This Every Night", while "She Likes It" contains some gritty guitar to go along with memorable hooks. Heaviest track might be "Success in Bed", complete with booming guitar & bass riffs plus a ton of groove, not to be outdone is "Diamond Lady", another testosterone fueled heavy rocker sitting at the back end of the album.
Though perhaps too much in the 'garage punk' vein for serious metal fans, Wild Cat is still a fun album that proves this veteran band still have plenty of tricks up their sleeve.
