Raw Rock Fury is the latest release from Philadelphia's Ecstatic Vision, one of the more unique albums you'll likely hear this year. Sort of like a wild head-on-collision between Hawkwind, the MC5, Captain Beefheart, and Monster Magnet, the band fuse psych, space rock, hard rock, blues, and jazz for an eclectic yet heavy listening experience. Throbbing bass & drums mesh with screaming sax on the raucous "You Got It (Or You Don't)", while spacey keyboards float over heavy grooves and sizzling wah-wah guitars on the two part "The Electric Step", a real treat for fans of classic Hawkwind. "Keep It Loose" delivers heavier riffs and effects saturated vocals, almost like the MC5 jamming with Captain Beefheart and Jim Morrison, which leads into the 14-minute, three part epic "Twinkling Eye", another excursion into psychedelic space rock, the booming bass lines providing a framework for distant vocal effects, vintage sounding keyboards, sax, and savage guitar riffs.
With this sophomore release, Ecstatic Vision are showing they are more than capable of leading the charge when it comes to modern psychedelic rock. Highly recommended!
