Emptiness: Not for Music

Emptiness defies expectations by scrapping convention and creating music that is dark, mysterious, and often frightening. Some listeners may describe the music here as dark ambient and they would be partly right. Emptiness certainly creates fascinating soundscapes but they are often so dark and so frightening that describing it as ambient doesn't quite work. It's more like the soundtrack to a nightmare, the kind that makes the dreamer feel trapped, unable to escape the terrors that await. Check out "Meat Heart," for example. Do you hear the threatening underbelly in that track? I hear it there and in "Your Skin Won't Hide You" as well. And then there's "Ever," a track that has a much more conventional beat (something from 1980s electronic music, I think) and somehow makes it come off as dark and foreboding. This is the music of dread.
