Seemingly launching from a time capsule labeled 1987 comes Ruff Justice, the fifth album from Swedish melodic hard rockers Crazy Lixx, out now on Frontiers Records. Filled with ten instantly memorable and catchy songs, Ruff Justice sees the band channeling their '80s influences and running with it, the album long on big choruses, crunchy riffs, and slick production values. Now 15 years together as a band, Crazy Lixx have honed this style down to a science, and the results are quite enjoyable. Tunes like "XIII", "Shot With a Needle of Love", "Killer", "Wild Child", and "Snakes in Paradise" immediately grab the listener with those soaring hooks and bright, crisp arrangements, while "If It's Love" is sure to get the females in the audience to shine their cell phones and wave them proudly, replacing the lighters from days of old. Lest you think it's all sugary sweet, raunchy hard rockers "Kiss of Judas" and "Hunter of the Heart" provide plenty of guitar thunder and locked in grooves, but whether it's ballads, anthems, or metallic numbers, everything on Ruff Justice is classy and melodic. Kudos once again to another Swedish band who know how to give the people what they want.
