The Road Less Traveled is an energetic live set recorded and filmed on April 23, 2016 at the Frontiers Rock Festival in Milano, Italy, the third installment of this now annual event and features the Swedish hard rock act playing classic songs as well as selections from their then new album Ghost of Graceland. The line-up for the performance was Robert Ernlund (Lead vocals),
Anders Wikström (Lead Guitars and vocals), Pontus Egberg (Electric Bass and vocals),
Jamie Borger (Drums), with guest keyboards at the event from H.E.A.T. member Jona Tee.
As with so much of what comes out of Sweden these days, this is just classy, melodic hard rock with more than enough glimpses at the classic sounds of yesteryear, Treat perfectly replicating their studio material live on stage for a welcoming audience. Boatloads of crunch-o-rama riffing, orchestral keys, tight rhythms, and soaring vocal hooks on anthems such as "Papertiger", "Ready for the Taking", "Better the Devil" and "Ghost of Graceland", while "Gimme One More Night" is a raging heavy rocker with dueling organ/guitar riffs in the grand tradition of Europe or Deep Purple, and "Conspiracy" has a metallic melodic rock feel not unlike vintage Dokken or Winger. Toss in a few ballads and you have a very balanced set of '80s styled hard rock from an underrated Swedish band who deserve more attention outside of their native Scandinavia and Europe. While we weren't provided the DVD for review purposes, the CD portion is excellent and contains 14 tracks, making for an action packed live album for any longtime fan or newbie.
