New Triumph, The: Keep on Push'n

The New Triumph inhabits the Seattle music scene but information on the band has been hard to find. I believe their first album Starship Estrada was released in 2013. The new record is titled Keep on Push'n and I can honestly say this has been an enjoyable listen right from the start. In the band are Camilo Estrada (bass), Marc Hager (keyboards), Arie Pytel (guitar), Adam Kessler (drums), Ahkeenu Musa (percussion), Robby Beasley (trumpet), Scott Morning (trumpet) and Ariel Chi-Linh Nguyen Loud (saxophones).

The music here is mostly jazz with elements of fusion, funk and Latin. The playing and production are completely professional and the songs are both melodic and adventurous with some dramatic change ups adding to the album's flair. The first track "Intro Cut" is an invigorating slice of fusion with a really cool keyboard and guitar tone with perhaps a hint of psychedelic. The vibe is definitely '70s fusion. On "Count Dracula's African Vacation" the upbeat percussion has an Afro-Latin vibe and the funky groove along with excellent trumpet and sax will certainly keep your feet moving. The title track features funky splashes of keyboards and another solid groove. One of my favourite tracks is the funky jazz of "Dem Donuts Tasty" where the saxophone and trumpet interplay is top notch.

Keep on Push'n is a diverse record that should provide plenty of interest for fans of jazz and fusion. Some of the catchier moments had me hooked almost immediately which is never a bad thing in my book. Recommended.
