Royal Hunt: 2016

In the same way that Tottenham Hotspur used to win the FA Cup in years ending in a one, Royal Hunt like to release live albums to do with years ending in a six. I remember reviewing the 2006 album and heartily enjoying it. In fact I have very much enjoyed almost all of the band's recorded output for many a year now and 2016 isn't going to put a stop to that.

The current line-up of Andrι Andersen – whose keyboards dominate proceedings, DC Cooper – vocals, Andreas Passmark – bass, the excellent Jonas Larsen – guitar and Andreas Johansson – drums are, not unsurprisingly, shithot musicians and technically at the top of their game. I can't comment on the DVD portion as I wasn't given access to it but musically there's lots to enjoy. DC Cooper doesn't even turn up for a while after the rest of the chaps get their chops together for a bit but when he does he is every bit as vocally commanding as ever. Whilst being very much on the proggy end of Frontiers' roster Royal Hunt can still pull out a quality singalong as well as the next band – step forward "Army of Slaves". There's very little crossover with the previous live albums so buy with confidence.
