Despite all the drama going on within the Heart camp at the moment (there is currently a family dispute that involved Ann's husband and Nancy's kids) that has put the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame band on indefinite hiatus, it's great to take a look back at their 2002 homecoming performance in Seattle, a time when they had just gotten back into regular touring & recording after another hiatus away from band activities. Sisters Ann & Nancy Wilson were joined by the rest of Heart, which at that time included Mike Inez (bass), Scott Olson (guitar), Benjamin Smith (drums), and Tom Kellock (keyboards), the band playing a 19 song set in front of an adoring crowd, covering much of their musical legacy up to that point.
As this is basically a reissue, it will be a great watch for those that missed out on the DVDs original release. As this was the end of Heart's comeback tour, the band were red hot and stoked to be in front of their home crowd, and played all the hits, a few covers, some deep cuts, and a few newer tracks, making for a nice selection of material. Of course, "Barracuda", "Crazy On You", "Magic Man", "These Dreams", "Alone", "Heaven", and "Straight On" are here, but also little gems like "Mistral Wind", "Dog and Butterfly", and "Deamboat Annie" are given royal treatment as well. Newer tracks such as "Sister Wild Rose", "Wild Child", and "Break the Rock" hit hard and fit right into the set nicely, while killer covers of Led Zeppelin classics "The Battle of Evermore" and "Black Dog" got the crown even more charged up. Through it all, Ann's commanding vocal pipes proved to still be in top notch shape, and Nancy's layers of acoustic & electric guitar majesty (and great vocals of her own!) perfectly played alongside the classy work of lead guitarist Olson.
Overall, a great look back on this memorable event from 2002, and another document of just how legendary this band is.
