Turbine is a duo made up of Jeremy Hilliard (electric guitar, vocals) and Ryan Rightmire (acoustic guitar, harmonica, vocals). Don't Mind If I Should , the band's debut disc, borrows heavily from American roots music, folk rock, and delta blues. Rightmire masterfully combines acoustic guitar plucking with soulful harmonica playing, which Hilliard then punctuates with fluid electric guitar fills, while the boys share vocal duties; often singing in harmony.
Noteworthy tracks include "Traveling Man" which has an acoustic period Dylan feel to it, "O-Dawg Stomp" with it's toe-tapping backbeat , obvious bluegrass overtones, and interesting harmonica lines, "Slain" which showcases the duo firing on all cylinders during the instrumental segments of the number, and "Wrong Side" where Rightmire's harmonica leads pierce through the melody.
Don't Mind If I Should is an interesting disc which is hard to categorize. Hilliard and Rightmire are obviously seasoned musicians who've been honing their craft on the New York City scene. I'm not sure where this disc, or this genre as a whole, fits in with the styles we cover on this site, but if any of the above genres tickle your fancy, you may want to seek this one out.
