Les Irreals Visions is the brand new Season of Mist release from Spain's Foscor, who are named after the Catalan word for "darkness". Though initially more of a black metal act on their first few albums, Foscor have taken on a more progressive rock & avant-garde edge in recent years, mixing those elements with their dark metal roots for a very intriguing sound that fully comes to fruition on this latest release. The band are currently:
Fiar (Lyrics & Vocals)
Falke (Lead & rhythm guitars, effects)
A.M (Lead & rhythm guitars, bass, piano)
J.F (Drums ( studio )
Many of the tracks here on Les Irreals Visions are steeped in atmosphere and lush melodies, with jagged guitar riffing, some keyboards, and acrobatic drumming providing all the drama necessary. Fiar's vocals are very well done, his clean melodic tone drifting over dense instrumentation on "Ciutat Tràgica", and cutting through a wall of doomy might on the potent "Encenalls De Mort". One of the more upbeat songs here is "Malfiança", complete with catchy grooves and textured guitar work, but personal favorite has to be the energetic and heavy closer "Traces Mòrbides", a tune packed with not only memorable melodies but big fat riffs and lots of progressive elements.
Though some might have a problem with the non-English vocals, it doesn't detract from the fact that this is a very accessible album, and though many of the arrangements follow a similar pattern (it's not the most uplifting album musically speaking) it's easy on the ears and an album that's not hard to recommend.
