German krautrock act Jane have been thrilling fans & audiences since their inception in 1970, but with the death of founding member, drummer and vocalist Peter Panka in 2007, Jane are now two factions, Peter Panka's Jane (despite the fact that he is no longer with us) and Werner Nadolny's Jane, the bands original keyboard player. This particular live show was filmed and recorded for the Rockpalast TV show back in 2004, when the Panka led unit included Nadolny as well as founding bassist/vocalist Charly Maucher and guitarist Klaus Walz, just a few short years before the drummers passing. In front of a very energetic audience, the band played a selection of classics from their many albums, such as the progressive rock gem "Fire, Water, Earth and Air", the hard hitting "Back Again", the atmospheric, Hammond organ led "Daytime", the lengthy epic "Windows/Spain" (featuring some killer guitar solos courtesy of Walz), the Mellotron drenched ballad "Out in the Rain", and the organ/guitar hard rocker "Hangman", another fine vehicle for muscular hard rock guitar. It's a splendid set of Jane favorites, and you can see how much love the band received from the fans in attendance, which is just the way it should be for a band of this stature.
Both the audio CD and the DVD are of high quality, making this a great live package for Jane fans, and the band were in fine form on this evening. Those new to Jane can expect a mix of German prog/Krautrock, heavy on blistering guitar & Hammond organ, with a touch of space rock, certainly easy to recommend if you also listen to Birth Control, Pink Floyd, Epitaph, Amon Düül II, Grobschnitt, Guru Guru, and Deep Purple. Another fine release from the folks at M.I.G. Music.
