Quantum Fantay: Tesselation of Euclidean Space

Belgium space rock/prog collective Quantum Fantay are back with their third release for Progressive Promotion Records, titled Tesselation of Euclidean Space. The 2017 line-up of the band consists of Pete Mush (synths, programming), Jaro (bass), Gino Bartolini (drums, percussion), and Tom Tas (guitars), joined here by Jorinde (flute) and Nette Willox (saxophone). The addition of flute and sax add an intriguing element to the bands multi-faceted sound, which for some will sound not unlike the ambient/techno/space rock stylings of Ozric Tentacles, now mixed with some jazz, classical, folk, and prog flavors. The flute plays a major role on "Manas Kavya", dueling with the aggressive guitars every step of the way as synths flutter and the rhythms rage, while "Astral Projection" and "Tessellate" both soar with majestic prog & space rock majesty. The centerpiece of the album lies in the 20-minute, four part "Skytopia", and it's here that Quantum Fantay's prog-rock roots take full flight, Mush's layers of synths splattered all about, accompanied by some tasty guitar solos courtesy of Tas, magnificent flute & sax passages, as well as some gorgeous acoustic guitar. After that lengthy juggernaut, the band close out the show with the atmospheric "Anahata", a lovely piece that recalls vintage Genesis as well as Jethro Tull, mixed with a little Tangerine Dream.

It's not often you hear instrumental music this captivating, but Tesselation of Euclidean Space will easily sweep you off your feet with all its magical splendor. With a wealth of variety and plenty of textures, Quantum Fantay have delivered an absolute winner here that space rock & prog fans should not miss.
