Streetmark: Eileen

Streetmark was a German band based out of Dusseldorf having formed in 1968. They released their first album titled Norland in 1976 and followed it up with Eileen in 1977. I have recently made myself acquainted with Eileen, an album I missed the first time around back in the day. I cannot comment on the rest of their discography, five albums overall but with Eileen the band had produced an excellent slice of space/psychedelic influenced progressive rock.

The band's line-up is comprised of:

Wolfgang Riechmann (vocals, synthesizer, guitar)
Dorothea Raukes (keyboards, backing vocals)
Thomas Schreiber (guitars, backing vocals)
Manfred Knauf (bass)
Hans Schweiss (drums, percussion)

Riechmann joined the band in 1977 but sadly was killed only a year later. His influence is certainly felt here as his vocals and synths are a huge part of the sound on Eileen. The first track "Crazy Notion" is mostly psychedelic space rock with hints of symphonic. The heady keyboards and languid pace makes for a trippy and ultimately satisfying tune. Slow builds of swirling guitar and keyboards highlight "Passage" followed by "Sea Of Melted Lead" and its chopped up jangly guitar and addictive keyboard work making for one of the album's catchiest tracks. Probably the best track is the twelve minute epic "Dreams", a trippy psych induced space rock jam that hits all the right spots.

It's easy to understand why Sireena Records saw fit to re-release Eileen, a long lost treasure of the '70s given new life to be enjoyed by all. Recommended!
