King Crimson: Heroes

Here we have a cool little EP from the current incarnation of King Crimson, four live tracks recorded at various stops on their late 2016 European tour, culled from shows in Berlin, Paris, and Vienna. Of course, the title cut is the famous David Bowie/Brian Eno classic, here given royal treatment and in all its anthemic glory, but the band also dive way back into the legendary Crimson catalog, most notably "Easy Money" and "Starless", both gems from the Fripp/Wetton/Bruford/Cross days of the early '70s. Jakko Jakszyk handles the John Wetton vocals quite nicely, squaring up with his guitar alongside Robert Fripp on the hard rocking "Easy Money", while the leader Fripp and keyboard player Bill Rieflin lay on some thick Mellotron waves on the latter, Mel Collins' gorgeous sax floating over the top quite nicely. "The Hell Hounds of Krim" is an excuse for the drum trio attack of Gavin Harrison, Jeremy Stacey, and Pat Mastelotto to work up a sweat, while the EP throws in a radio edit of "Heroes" to close things up.

Short, and certainly sweet, Heroes is a tasty little tidbit for any King Crimson lover, and hopefully everyone can get a chance to go out and see them on this current tour.
