Yes, it's that time of the year again folks! As the holidays are approaching, strap in your seat belts for the eventual onslaught of Christmas themed releases from pop, hard rock, jazz, and metal acts alike. Here we have Vintage Christmas Trio, jazz pianist David Ian's follow-up to his acclaimed solo release Vintage Christmas, this time around tackling holiday favorites with bassist Jon Estes and drummer Josh Hunt in tow. It's a decidedly stripped down yet lovely affair, not unlike the classic Vince Guaraldi Trio recording A Charlie Brown Christmas in its simplistic majesty. Many of your favorites are here, including a brilliant take on "White Christmas", a fun "Deck the Halls", and a heart tugging rendition of "Oh Come All Ye Faithful". Ian's airy piano melodies are quite charming throughout, but the real surprise here is the silky smooth upright bass grooves courtesy of Estes, who proves to be the perfect foil to Ian's majestic flights. "Up on the Housetop" and "Silver Bells" are also not to be missed, but in all honesty this entire collection is dazzling, and in the end you'll just wish there was more. Pop this on while enjoying Christmas dinner with your family, having a few warm cocktails by the fire, or opening gifts on Christmas morning. Enchanting.
