Blood Music is proud to present the latest release from Philadelphia black metal horde Chaos Moon, titled Eschaton Mémoire. Filled with bleak atmosphere and nightmarish visions, Eschaton Mémoire kicks off with the two part "The Pillar, The Fall, and The Key", as minimalist post-rock textures quickly give way to haunting atmosphere created by waves of keyboards, textured guitars, intricate drumming, and the anguished wails of Eric Baker. Spooky stuff for sure. The 10+ minute "Of Wrath and Forbidden Wisdom" again sees arrangements that veer towards the epic & atmospheric, Chaos Moon harnessing not only the great Emperor but also fellow US act Wolves in the Throne Room. The closing two part title track ups the tempo for some blazing black metal, but the symphonic backdrops are even more pronounced, the huge orchestral swells combating the acrobatic drumming of Jack Blackburn and Baker's hate filled ramblings.
Overall, this is a very solid release, and a really good example of how atmospheric/symphonic black metal should be done. Recommended.
