Download This is the new album from Arizona based guitarist/singer/songwriter Kurt Beckman, and contains 8 tracks of Christian themed '80s styled hard rock & heavy metal. The album features Beckman on all guitars & lead vocals, Steve Jernigan on bass, Jim Korakis on keyboards, and Ken Mary on drums. Now, if the name Ken Mary sounds familiar, that's probably because you've heard his work on many albums over the years since the mid '80s, including acts such as Chastain, Alice Cooper, TKO, Impelliteri, House of Lords, and many others. Most of the tracks here are catchy & melodic, doused with Beckman's crunchy riffing and flashy solos, with tunes such as "Let's Roll", "Lay It Down", and "Turn" carrying a spiritual message but still managing to be party anthems from a musical perspective. "The Choice" fleshes out the sound with some acoustic guitar layers, but the rich vocal harmonies and blazing electric guitar work shines through, while the grinding "Follow Me (The Rescue)" with its heavy riffs and potent organ fills, is almost like a midnight meeting between Ratt and Deep Purple. "Lay Down My Life" is Download This' acoustic ballad, with lyrics that certainly mean a lot to the leader, who also tosses in a well thought out guitar solo dripping with emotion. "Fall On My Knees mixed tender acoustics with stadium riffs & guitar solos, a must hear for any fan of Warrant, Firehouse, Ratt, and Motley Crue, and the album closes with the rousing "Hallelujah!", which is chock full of tasty riffs, scorching solos, and plenty of hooks.
Don't let the 'spiritual' lyrical content scare you away from what is ultimately a very fun and uplifting '80s styled hard rock/metal record, filled with a boatload of expert guitar work, anthemic rhythms, and no shortage of catchy melodies.
